Ode to My Blue Pot

By Joell Folger

When you love a cooking tool almost as much as you love food, life is good. I am lucky to have a few pieces in my pantry that fit this description. With the winter weather, it is time to turn to warm comforting dinners, enter my blue pot. You know the enamel cast iron type, a dutch oven as my hubby calls it.

A few birthdays ago, I was given a blue ombre enamel cast iron pot. What a thrilling gift as this pot was on my wish list of kitchen tools. It immediately became a favorite and well loved cooking tool. In the fall and winter, we use it frequently. Most recently, Ben, my son, cooked up a batch of pineapple pork tacos.

Ode to My Pot of Blue
My shades of blue pot makes me anything but blue
A birthday gift that gives through and through
The way olive oil warms and glistens off your surface
Sizzle is the dance of the garlic and onions
A simple start to many a meal, success or flop
The burns wash cleanly away, ready for another day
What will the next recipe hold, sweet, savory or bold
Oh, from short ribs to berry cobbler
Your functions are endless, you’ll never grow old
Now onto dinner and your next adventure on my stove top
Tonight is a trusted classic, just perfect for you
My beloved pot of blue

Well, there is my silly ode to my favorite pot. I’m glad it is in my pantry and I am seriously going to be making dinner in it tonight. It’s been a week since it was last used, oh my.
